According to a Greek myth, Atlas had to bear the celestial globe on his shoulders for eternity. How does one depict that infinite vault? In this work, McQueen has captured the universe in a single visual experience. To do so, he makes use of astronomical data grom GAIA, a European Space Agency probe which is constantly recroding the positions, movements and clarity of more than one billion stars. McQueen uses self-learning software that converts this data to moving images that take the viewer on a voyage through the cosmos.
