Weerhoud, the first major solo exhibition in the Nordic region by Igshaan Adams, opens this weekend at ARoS Aarhus Art Museum.
The exhibition will combine Adams’ delicately woven tapestries with sculptural dust clouds, including one of the artists’s largest installations to date which shares its title with the exhibition, Weerhoud, an Afrikaans word meaning ‘withheld’.
Adams explores the impact of trauma on the human psyche and the healing power of movement, with a particular interest in how dance can help strengthen human resilience and agency. Together with historical loans, the exhibition features five new works, including a 6.5 metre-long tapestry created in collaboration with the South African dance group Garage Dance Ensemble.
Weerhoud is organised in collaboration with The Hepworth Wakefield, and was first shown there in 2024.
