10.10.25 - Amie Siegel’s ‘Fetish’ (2016) at the Carnegie Museum of Art
Amie Siegel’s Fetish (2016) will be featured on Monday October 13 at 7pm in Here or There (6) as part of the 2025 edition of the Carnegie Museum of Art Film Series, programmed by artist and filmmaker Garrett Bradley.
Fetish delves into the stratified relationships between culture, value, and material, focusing on Sigmund Freud’s personal collection of archaeological statues and artifacts. Filmed at the Freud Museum in London, it portrays the annual nocturnal cleaning of the psychoanalyst’s collection, suggesting an analogy between the careful, voyeuristic, almost ritualistic removal of layers of dust from the objects and the intimate excavations and disclosures of analysis, both processes normally hidden from view.
The Carnegie Museum of Art Film Series is an annual programme that builds on the rich, dynamic film history and expansive time-based media collection at the museum.
