4.11.25 - Anya Gallaccio ‘An Apple a Day’ in the Day of Action for ‘Remember Nature 2025’

Today, Anya Gallaccio’s An Apple a Day is part of the Day of Action for Remember Nature 2025, an ambitious new staging of the visionary art project initiated in 2015 by the artist Gustav Metzger (1926–2017).

For the Day of Action, 16 arts organisations across England have come together as a call to ‘remember nature’, realising Metzger’s hope and belief in the future power of art to halt universal extinction. Gallaccio’s An Apple a Day is a legacy project from her solo exhibition, Preserve, at Turner contemporary in Margate (28 September 2024–26 January 2025), for which the artist planted an orchard of rare and heritage apple trees at Lees Court Estate with primary school children from local schools in Kent, creating a living artwork that will grow and evolve over at least twenty years.

This year’s ambitious new staging of Remember Nature is curated by Andrea Gregson and Jo Joelson. Each regional partner nominated a lead artist to create a place-specific Day of Action, which will all be part of a livestream from 12 noon today. The films accompanying these actions can be watched online, and will be screened today in Tate Modern’s Starr Cinema (2pm–5.30pm).
