17.2.26 - Hurvin Anderson at Tate Britain
Hurvin Anderson opens next week at Tate Britain, London, the first major survey of the artist’s work and his largest institutional exhibition to date. Bringing together around 80 works, the show will span Anderson’s entire career, from formative work to present day, including a room of never-before-seen paintings.
Drawing on family, memories from youth, and places of individual and cultural significance, Anderson’s work weaves back and forth across the Atlantic, between the UK and the Caribbean, reflecting on his experiences of belonging and diaspora. The exhibition will include some of his best-known works from the Barbershop and Peter’s series, as well as Ball Watching, Welcome and Country Club, among others. It will also feature the UK debut of the monumental 24-panel work, Passenger Opportunity (2024-25), reconceived for this new exhibition.
Curated by Dominique Heyse-Moore, Senior Curator, Contemporary British Art at Tate, and Jasmine Kaur Chohan, Assistant Curator, Contemporary British Art.
