Opening this week, De Pont Museum, Tilburg presents Atlas, the first solo institutional exhibition in the Netherlands by Steve McQueen.
The exhibition takes its title from a new work, commissioned by De Pont Museum, which will make its debut here. In Atlas (2026) McQueen has captured the universe in a single visual experience. To do so, he makes use of astronomical data from GAIA, a European Space Agency probe which is recording the positions, movements and clarity of more than one billion stars. Self-learning software then converts this data to moving images that take the viewer on a voyage through the cosmos. Alongside this, the exhibition will feature the multi-channel video installation Sunshine State (2022), a recent sound work Untitled (2025), and the 47-part colour photo series Bounty (2024).
Coinciding with the exhibition at De Pont Museum, a book of the series Bounty is published by MACK, designed by Irma Boom, with a new text by writer and poet Dionne Brand.
