30.6.26 - Alexandre da Cunha, ‘Orbit’ at 2 Aldermanbury Square, London

A new public artwork by Alexandre da Cunha has been unveiled at GPE’s 2 Aldermanbury Square development in the City of London.

Curated by Modus Operandi, Orbit (2026) is integrated into the architecture at three levels of the new development, designed by Allies & Morrison architects, which includes enhancement of the raised City Walkway to create a new link and gateway to the Culture Mile.

At the centre of Orbit, above the viewer, a constellation of recessed footprints creates a playful disorientating perspective. The physical indentation of the footprints inverts the idea of the ground as a surface that records the traces of the past, from archaeological remains to the marks we make on our daily commute. The geometric forms and overlapping circles within the work, spanning three levels of the building’s exterior, provide a variety of viewpoints and suggest themes of astrology or stargazing.

“When I work on a large scale, I try to push the work to become monumental and yet very subtle. This piece is an invitation to slow down the journey of the viewer.” — Alexandre da Cunha
