Reverse Archaeology presents a talk by Amie Siegel and conversation with curators Andrea Viliani and Francesco Manacorda, as well as archaeologists, conservators, architects and art historians, featuring images from the artist’s new work I diseredati / The Dispossessed, premiering in Pompeii in June 2027.
The event will explore the radical cinematic inversion of archaeological processes the artist’s work proposes: the return of ancient objects, now held in the museum galleries and storage facilities of the Pompeii Archaeological Park and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, to their places of provenance in Pompeii.
The conversation will offer an opportunity to examine the relationship between objects, contexts, interpretations and the artist’s speculative practices. Themes of object repatriation, as well as museological and archaeological methodologies will be explored, reconsidering the ways in which cultural heritage is mediated, and the past is redefined in the present.
The event is organised as part of the project I diseredati / The Dispossessed, supported by PAC2025 – Piano per l’Arte Contemporanea, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
