Amie Siegel: Gropius Bau, Berlin

Amie Siegel's Quarry (2015) will be screened from 7pm (CET) on Friday 11 September at Gropius Bau in Berlin, as part of Revolverkino's film series What is Landscape? along with films by Joanna Hogg and Hannes Long.  

Quarry traces the source of marble from a dark, cave-like underground quarry in Vermont—the largest in the world—to its high-end destination in Manhattan real estate developments. The orchestral soundtrack forms an emotive underpinning to the sleek interiors, echoing at times the aspiration of the luxury rendering. White marble, with its association to classical renaissance sculpture, is shaped and constructed into the interior surfaces of these luxury apartments, designed to bring even the most mundane spaces in closer proximity to the materiality and values of art. Through a distinctive camera choreography of tracking shots, gliding movements and sudden tableaux, the film reveals and montages increasingly elaborate layers and strategies of re-creation and simulation. Ultimately the representation of living or life exposes a complex economy of production and speculation.

John Gerrard: Live Online Conversation with Artistic Director of Galway International Arts Festival Paul Fahy

John Gerrard will be in live online conversation with Paul Fahy to discuss the making of Mirror Pavilion: Corn Work and Mirror Pavilion: Leaf Work. The talk will be live-streamed from Galway International Arts Festival's Facebook and YouTube channels.

John Gerrard: Mirror Pavilion: Leaf Work and Mirror Pavilion: Corn Work, Galway International Arts Festival and Galway 2020

Galway International Arts Festival and Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture, present a major new site-specific commission by John Gerrard. 

Gerrard's Mirror Pavilion, composed of a highly reflective mirrored cube with an LED wall display, will present two software works — Corn Work and Leaf Work (2020) — installed by the River Corrib at Galway’s Claddagh Quay and at Derrigimlagh Bog in Connemara respectively.

Cecily Brown: Blenheim Palace 

Made up entirely of new works inspired by the Palace’s collection, the Blenheim Art Foundation will unveil a major solo exhibition by Cecily Brown.

This will be the first exhibition in the Foundation’s programme to be comprised entirely of new work created in response to the Palace’s history as an English country estate and as the home to successive generations of the Spencer-Churchill family and their collection of paintings, tapestries and decorative arts.

Rendered in her emotive, frenetic brushstrokes, Brown’s new series will visually reference masterpieces by Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir Anthony Van Dyck on view at the Palace, as well as family heraldry, armorial banners and the martial scenes of the Blenheim Tapestries that line the State Rooms.

Steve MᶜQueen Reopens at Tate Modern 

Thomas Dane Gallery is pleased to announce the reopening of Steve MᶜQueen at Tate Modern from Friday 7 August, with extended viewing through 6 September 2020. 

The exhibition joins the three existing Tate Modern visitor routes now available to pre-book online here. 

This major exhibition coincides with MᶜQueen’s Year 3, recently extended at Tate Britain until 31 January 2021, an epic portrait of London’s Year 3 pupils created through a partnership between Tate, Artangel and A New Direction. Entry is free and timed tickets can be booked here.

Abraham Cruzvillegas: Online Seminar, Museu de arte de São Paulo

Abraham Cruzvillegas will take part in the third online seminar at Museu de arte de São Paulo (MASP). The seminar is part of a long-term project that anticipates the program of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, publications and courses at MASP dedicated to Indigenous Histories in 2023.

The seminars also aim to present and discuss the richness and complexity of indigenous materials and immaterial cultures, their philosophies and cosmologies, in addition to the challenges and possibilities of working with these fields, especially in the context of a museum.

Steve McQueen: Year 3 Extension, Tate Britain 

Steve McQueen’s Year 3 exhibition at Tate Britain will be extended through 31 January 2021. ⁣⁣

Using the vehicle of the traditional school class photograph, this vast artwork offers a glimpse of London’s future: a hopeful portrait of a generation to come. Steve McQueen invited every Year 3 pupil in the capital to be photographed and brought these images together into a single large-scale installation, capturing tens of thousands of young faces at a milestone moment in their development.⁣
