Soundtrack of America opens The Shed with a five-night concert series celebrating the influence of African American music on contemporary culture with performances by emerging musicians. Conceived and directed by Steve McQueen, Soundtrack traces a musical “family tree” of spirituals and blues, jazz and gospel, R&B, rock and roll, house, hip hop, and trap that has inspired a new generation of artists who continue to develop that legacy.

Abraham Cruzvillegas: Hi, How Are You, Gonzo?, The Contemporary Austin

Abraham Cruzvillegas’s practice begins with the concept of autoconstrucción—loosely defined as “self-construction,” an idea rooted in transformation, exchange, and play. During the exhibition, a series of site-specific, assemblage sculptures will be enlivened through music, performances, workshops, cooking, storytelling, art making, skateboarding, and more, in “activations” led by the artist’s collaborators from Mexico City and invited community partners from Austin.
