Anya Gallaccio: Beat, 2002
Texts by Mary Horlock, Heidi Reitmaier and Simon Schama

In the autumn of 2002, Anya Gallaccio transformed Tate Britain's Duveen Galleries with beat, a specially commissioned exhibition of new work that offers a response both to the grandeur of the architecture and to the tradition of British landscape painting represented in the Tate Collection. This book follows the project's development from concept to installation, and explores Gallaccio's practice of using natural, organic materials and processes - here oak trees and sugar beet.

Texts by Mary Horlock, Heidi Reitmaier and Simon Schama are interwoven with a visual essay, created on the walls of the artist's studio, in which the juxtaposition of photographs, texts, illustrations, architectural plans and various ephemera offers fascinating clues as to the evolution of the project.

Mary Horlock is a Curator at Tate Britain, Heidi Reitmaier is a . curator, programmer and writer, and Simon Schama is a historian and writer.
