6.10.22 - Thomas Dane Gallery at Frieze London 2022
Stand E05
For Frieze London 2022 Thomas Dane Gallery will present a project organised entirely by artist Anthea Hamilton. The booth will be an evolution of her signature approach to exhibition making, seen most recently in her show at Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, which brings together different disciplines such as fine art, design, and museology, blurring the lines and boundaries between walls, floor, furniture, and artworks, to create a complete environment for the booth.
Hamilton has selected works from across the gallery programme plus a special group of invited artists.

Abraham Cruzvillegas: The 1st Intergalactic Summit of Independent Art Spaces, Sandwich Gallery, Bucharest
The Summit is a proposal thought of in 2019 that makes so much more sense in 2020. Abraham Cruzvillegas thrives on improvisation and instability, on conjuring collective constructions and transforming collected objects into large environments, in the making of which he is never alone. For this occasion, Abraham has invited artist-run spaces from various countries to send us instructions for a group exhibition or group exhibitions.
Exhibition dates: 11 September - 16 November 2020

Abraham Cruzvillegas: Hi, How Are You, Gonzo?, The Contemporary Austin
Abraham Cruzvillegas’s practice begins with the concept of autoconstrucción—loosely defined as “self-construction,” an idea rooted in transformation, exchange, and play. During the exhibition, a series of site-specific, assemblage sculptures will be enlivened through music, performances, workshops, cooking, storytelling, art making, skateboarding, and more, in “activations” led by the artist’s collaborators from Mexico City and invited community partners from Austin.

Abraham Cruzvillegas and Anya Gallaccio: Special Project at Ignacio Zaragoza Avenue
Ciclónica is a group exhibtion on the Ignacio Zaragoza Avenue (Mexico-Puebla motorway), where chain-link fencing separates the highway from the adjoining neighborhoods; this road is used to enter the city from its south and east sides, meaning some local businesses use these fences to advertise their services. Ciclónica invited artists to create an image or a text, reproduced as digital prints on one square meter canvases. The works were mounted on the fences along the motorway, and distributed in the following stations: Tejones, Caseta Vieja, Cárcel, Peñón Viejo, Clínica 25, Tepalcates.
The fence's original use for advertising presupposes a certain visibility for passersby and for people using public transport. In this way, the city is put to use, especially through the so-called peripheries, as an exhibition platform to show the works of various national and international artists to those who travel through, or are displaced by, the city.
Curated by Antonio Nieto Cuevas.
